"The Pilates Method of body conditioning develops the body uniformly, corrects posture, restores vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit."

Barre history

Lotte Berk, a German born dancer, created her own ballet barre dance conditioning routine in 1940. Her routine was based on her dance back ground and her own personal experience with injuries. In 1960 the first Lotte Berk studio opened in England followed by studios opening up in New York in the 1970's.

In 2010 Minneapolis was on the cusp of the "Barre Craze." Adrienne owned Align Pilates Minneapolis at the time and was eager to introduce her studio to the legendary Barre class. Growing up a dancer with an extensive background in ballet she couldn't wait to get back at the barre. However she was disappointed in the barre training that was available. Due to her extensive background in Pilates, she was schooled in proper alignment and healthy body movement, and did not agree with with what barre trainings were teaching. Adrienne decided to create her own barre class that focused on strength, coordination, flexibility, control, balance, and overall good posture all while enjoying good music and being at the "barre." In addition to the successful class created by Align Pilates®, Adrienne developed and taught the Align Barre Teacher Training program that trained over 250 students over a four year span.

barre class

This class is done 30 minutes on the mat and 30 minutes at the barre. A series of exercises are performed to create a balance between strength and flexibility. Students are taught how to be aware of their own proper alignment and full body strength by challenging muscles to their full capacity. Class is done to fun upbeat music and is challenging on the muscles! All levels welcome. No experience required.

All privates are held at The Cottage- my private home studio in the Kenwood neighborhood between  Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake.
